Kobie Brand

Kobie is the Deputy Secretary-General of ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability, Regional Director of ICLEI Africa, and Global Director of the Cities Biodiversity Center (CBC). She is responsible for the strategic direction, growth, partnerships, programmes and scope of work for ICLEI in Africa, as well as for ICLEI’s global biodiversity and nature-based solutions work and related agendas.


Her mission in life is supporting cities to create a sustainable urban future, where their communities are reconnected with nature.


What makes her want to join LCE?

Kobie says: " I represent ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability, one of the oldest and largest global networks of more than 2 500 local and subnational governments in over 125 countries that are committed to sustainable urban development. The vision and values of LCE align closely with the work we have been doing over the past three decades.

I have more than 25 years of practical and managerial experience in environmental management and urban development. My expertise ranges from biodiversity, climate change and coastal management, to urban planning and communications. My superpower is the passion for the work that I do with my incredible team!"
